About me

Mary Louise Gifford
With a two-decade commitment to addressing climate change, my career has been a journey through impactful roles and groundbreaking initiatives. I commenced my professional journey as the Chief of Staff for the Chairman of the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Transitioning to the World Bank, I skillfully managed a $200+ million portfolio focused on renewable energy and climate projects across Latin America. In the private sector, my last decade has been dedicated to designing strategies, products, and technologies at the intersection of ESG investment and multinational corporate objectives. Operating with a lean startup budget and team, I navigated the intricate landscape with finesse.
At FBSciences, a global agritech company, I spearheaded the climate-smart strategy and led the climate-smart task force at The Fertilizer Institute, a prominent agricultural lobby organization, leading to their successful acquisition in 2023. In recent years, my focus has shifted to advising multinational companies, academia, and startups on the convergence of technology, climate change, and policy. Having lived and worked extensively across Asia, Latin America, and Europe, I’ve founded and led various climate initiatives, including the World Bank Youth Lab, Seattle Climate Hack-a-thon , and Syracuse Engineers Without Borders. I graduated with honors from SUNY-College of Environmental Science & Forestry in Environmental Forest Engineering, and obtained a Masters of Sciences from UC Berkeley at the Energy & Resources Group, where I spearheaded and led the Berkeley Rural Energy Group.
